Ten for Ten

It’s going to be very hard not to turn this particular blog into three paragraphs of gloating. But I’m going to do my best to deliver this news impartially.

This year seven wink members, including myself, attended the Romance Writers Conference in Melbourne from 22nd to 24th August. We all pitched one or two manuscripts to three different editors from American and Australian publishers. It was a 100% success rate. For ten pitches, we got ten requests for either fulls or partials.

In short, WE SO TOTALLY ROCK!!!!!

Okay, so the impartiality was short lived. But I’m only just coming down from the euphoria. I mean, the rush was better than drugs. I felt like a bottle of champagne that had been shaken. And when we all found out that we all had gotten requests, you should have heard the corks successively popping. It was just surreal.
Now of course, as the first bout of joy subsides, I can feel the panic taking hold. We have so much work ahead of us. And less than 4 months to do it. Yikes! But we’ll do what we always do. Try our best and help each other.

I would like to attribute this technique to our pitching success. I know I couldn’t have done it without Wink backing me up. So my hot tip for the month is, if you’re going to pitch to an editor, practice on your friends first. And if you want to know whether or not you’re really ready to take plunge, flip a coin. Heads means, you are. Tails mean, you definitely are!
JUST DO IT! It’s worth it.

No matter the outcome.

This is my first requested material and it was great to go through the preparation, nerves and celebrations with the people who have shared the rest of my writing journey.

GO WInk.
